<br />~ <br /> <br />..- <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />3: <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 13. 1964 <br /> <br />Noting the Committee's specific reference to Moorefield's Cleaners & Laundry, <br /> <br />Inc., and County-City Laundry Corporation, and to the assertion that these <br /> <br />firms have done little to abate smoke and air pollution, Council directed that <br /> <br />a copy of the Committee's report be forwarded to these firms with Council's <br /> <br />warning that it will consider enacting regulatory measures to compel the <br /> <br />discontinuance by these firms of smoke and air pollution if these firms do <br /> <br />not voluntarily take steps forthwith to comply. <br /> <br />Mr. George W. Lester, of Lester Lumber Company, Inc., appeared before Council <br /> <br />and stated that, if the forthcoming October 20th bond referendum passes, <br /> <br /> <br />Lester Lumber Company will donate rights-of-way from lands it owns along the <br /> <br /> <br />western portion of Elizabeth Street, the eastern portion of the proposed <br /> <br />ItInner Looprr as an extension of Lester Street, and for the East-West Boulevard <br /> <br />from Liberty Street to Northside Drive. Council acknowledged this offer with <br /> <br />gratitude and appreciation, noting the many donations for street rights-of-way <br /> <br />by Lester Lumber Company during the past years. <br /> <br />Through Dr. C. J. Mathes, Director of the local Health Department, the <br /> <br />Commonwealth of Virginia presented its check in the amount of $182.05 to the <br /> <br />City as the City's pro-rata share of a refund due because of an unfilled <br /> <br />posi tion ~n the Local Health Department for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1964. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reported that bids were received on October 6th for the <br /> <br /> <br />construction of approximately 2,323 feet of an eight-inch vitrefied clay pipe <br /> <br /> <br />sewer line along an extension of the new Armory Road to the new industrial <br /> <br /> <br />access road near Route 220 North, t~ese bids being as follows: <br /> <br />Hackler-Seymour Metal Works, Inc., $7,827.00; and Prillaman & Pace ,$10,996.00 ; <br />
