2:

TUESDAY

JULY 14. 1964

Messrs. William N. Richey and Harold E. ltlilson, residing on Craig Street,

appeared before Council and requested action by the City whereby flooding

of the stream along their property on Craig Street, as well as erosion of

land, such as occurred during heavy rains of Sunday, July 12th, might be

preventei. City Manager Hirst reported that he has viewed the conditions

at this point as well aEJ all along the Jefferson Street basin and that--if

it is determined that these conditions are not the City's responsibility,

in keeping with the position previously taken by the City--the City's

interest would lie only in offering advice to the various property owners

as to what steps they might follm.J to protect their several properties from

what is described as flooding and erosion from natural drainage in the area.

City Manager Hirst also pointed out, along with Dr. C. J. Mathes of the

Health Df:;partment, that some contamination by sewage has occurred in the

stream and that efforts will be made to correct this condition. Meanwhile,

several ;mggestions were explored as to ways and means of preventing flooding

along the basin, with Council suggesting that the City's Engineering Division

study the problem and offer such advice to the property oltmers as may be

determined to their best interest.

^,-

Council unanimously authorized Lester Lumber Company, Inc., to extend outside

the City's northwest corporate limits--and from such corporate limits--a

City water main, not less than eight inches in size, for a distance of some

1200'-1500' along the north side of Route 220 North to serve property owned

by Lester Lumber Company and occupiei by Kilby's Drive-In Restaurant,

including the installation of a fire hydrant, all in accordance with the

City's requirements and specifications.
