<br />2' <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 23, 1964 <br /> <br />In further consideration of the business license tax relief petition recently <br /> <br />filed by Prillaman & Pace, Inc., contractors, Council--by resolution, as <br /> <br />follows--adjm:ted the basis upon which local contractors may report their <br /> <br />annual gross receipts for business license taxation purposes, thus granting <br /> <br />license tax relief to local contractors: <br /> <br />RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this 23rd day of June, 1964, that <br />persons and/or firms operating businesses within the corporate <br />limits of the City of Martinsville, who or which are subject <br />to gross receipts license taxes imposed under Section 4 of <br />Chapter III of the City1s Business License Tax Ordinance, entitled <br />nContractors and Contracting", shall be permitted to exclude from <br />gross receipts (and the payment of local business license taxes <br />thereon) each and every contract service performed outside the <br />City1s corporate limits where compensation for such contract <br />service exceeds the total sum of $10,000.00, provided that such <br />contract service is or was performed pursuant to the awarding <br />of such contract on a competitive bid basis. <br /> <br />RESOLVED, further, that the effective date of this action will be <br />retroactive to January 1, 1964, to the extent that local contractors <br />who wish to take advantage of this revision Jllay do so in reporting <br />1964 gros" receipts for the license year beginning May 1, 1965. <br /> <br />Mr. W. R. Broaddus, III, Attorney at Law but as a citizen representing a group of <br /> <br />citizens residing in the vicinity of the Druid Hills Elementary School, appeared <br /> <br />before Council and requested that curb-and-gutter be constructed on both sides of <br /> <br />.".-. <br /> <br />Indian Trail from Windsor Lane to Prospect Hill Drive and that sidewalk be constructed <br /> <br />along one side of Indian Trail, all on a shared-cost basis, and that this work be <br /> <br />authorized and constructed before the beginning of the new school year in September. <br /> <br />Mr. Broaddus, along with his group, pointed out the hazardous traffic conditions <br /> <br />in the area and expressed the conviction that these improvements are necessary for <br /> <br />the protection of school children in the area.
