21 TUESDAY MAY 26,1964 Burch Estate properties along Oak Street, for a distance of some 716 feet. Upon recorrrmendation of City Manager Hirst, Council also directed the connecting by the City of the extended water main, from its proposed terminus at the end of the Burch Estate property, to the present main along Graves Street to provide a loop in this line for better service and for more fire protection in the area. At the suggestion of City Manager Hirst, Council directed that the cost incurred by the City in advertising public hearings on rezoning petitions shall be assessed against and collected from the petitioners in each case. City Manager Hirst reported that Appalachian Power Company has just been authorized by the State Corporation Commission to effect certain reductions and changes in its present electric tariffs and that as soon as data as to the effect of these proposed changes can be compiled, should Council wish to parallel the revised tariffs, he will pass this on to Council. ,-- At the request of the developers of the new shopping center to be located on the C. Y. Thomas Estate property and the Sallie B. Earley Estate property near the intersection of--and south of--East Church Street and Brookdale Road, Council agreed to vacate a City electric utility easement across the shopping center property upon the condition that, in so doing, the City's interests can be satisfied. - A discussion of pedestrian hazards in connection with the operation of ice-cream trucks, etc., was continued.
