<br />21 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 26,1964 <br /> <br />Burch Estate properties along Oak Street, for a distance of some 716 feet. <br /> <br />Upon recorrrmendation of City Manager Hirst, Council also directed the <br /> <br />connecting by the City of the extended water main, from its proposed <br /> <br />terminus at the end of the Burch Estate property, to the present main <br /> <br />along Graves Street to provide a loop in this line for better service and <br /> <br />for more fire protection in the area. <br /> <br />At the suggestion of City Manager Hirst, Council directed that the cost <br /> <br /> <br />incurred by the City in advertising public hearings on rezoning petitions <br /> <br />shall be assessed against and collected from the petitioners in each case. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst reported that Appalachian Power Company has just been <br /> <br />authorized by the State Corporation Commission to effect certain reductions <br /> <br />and changes in its present electric tariffs and that as soon as data as to <br /> <br />the effect of these proposed changes can be compiled, should Council wish <br /> <br />to parallel the revised tariffs, he will pass this on to Council. <br /> <br />,-- <br /> <br />At the request of the developers of the new shopping center to be located on <br /> <br />the C. Y. Thomas Estate property and the Sallie B. Earley Estate property <br /> <br />near the intersection of--and south of--East Church Street and Brookdale <br /> <br />Road, Council agreed to vacate a City electric utility easement across <br /> <br />the shopping center property upon the condition that, in so doing, the City's <br /> <br />interests can be satisfied. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />A discussion of pedestrian hazards in connection with the operation of <br /> <br />ice-cream trucks, etc., was continued. <br /> <br />Mr. William U. Starkey, Manager of the local division of the Southwestern <br /> <br />Virginia Gas Company, informed Council that his firm is filing with the State <br />
