TUESDAY MAY 12. 1964 Upon recommendation of City Manager Hirst, Council directed that a resolution be prepared--for Council's conside~ation--which would designate metered parking spaces on the east side of the ]i'ayette Street Parking Lot as an llarea market placell, to provide space for certificated farm-products growers--under stipulated condition~3--to offer their prodllce and vegetables for sale. - By letter, M,:'. W. G. Council referred this subsequent petition to the Planning Comrn:_ssion for its ccm:3ideration and recommendation. City Manager Hirst informed Council that he expects to present his recommended City Budget (for the fiscal year beg~nning July 1, 1964) to Council on Juno 9, 1964. ~ Council acknol,Jledged receipt of--and directed filing thereof for consideration in selecting projects for the next fiscal year's work program--a petition requesting the construction of sidewalk along the south side of Fayette Street from High Street to Memorial Boulevard, a distance of some 1,800-2,000 feet. - In response to a purchase-option inquiry from the Virginia Department of Highways, Council unanimously agr'Jed to sell to the Highway Department .47 acre of land for the sum of $()/I-O .00, which land consists of one tract of .43 acre on the north side of Route 220 South and .04 acre on the west side of Route 641, adjacent to the City's Industrial Park. The High,tlay Department indicatf3d thg,t this land is required for additional right-of-way for the widening of Route 220 South and for the relocating of t he intersection of Route 641 ,tlith Route 220 South. /
