<br />By a recorded and unanimous vote, Council appropriated from its Airport Reserve
<br />
<br />(Surplus) account the sum of $30,000.00 fr0ID which the City's one-half share
<br />
<br />($27,962.50) of the cost of land under written option is to be paid and the
<br />
<br />difference allocated towards the remainder of the City's share of the total
<br />
<br />cost of the project; further, Council authorized Councilman Stone, City Attorney
<br />
<br />Cubine, and City Manager Hirst to represent the City in the acquisition of the
<br />
<br />tracts of land itemized hereinabove.
<br />
<br />Council was informed that the 1964 Virginia General Assembly has enacted
<br />
<br />legislation establishing an airport authority (Blue Ridge Airport Authority)
<br />
<br />under which the proposed new airport will be developed and operated, with
<br />
<br />membership of the authority to be appointed by the Judge of the Seventh Judicial
<br />
<br />Circuit (Judge John D. Hooker); whereupon Council recommended the following
<br />
<br />persons to Judge Heoker for his consideration in making the appointments:
<br />
<br />Messrs. R. P. Gravely, Jr.; John Kirk Adams; Councilman E. E. Stone (if not
<br />
<br />prohibted from membership by reason of being a member of City Council); and
<br />
<br />Garland T. LaPrade; all of whom served on the Airport Study Commission.
<br />
<br />Council was adjourned.
