23 THURSDAY FEBRUARY 27, 1964 A special and duly-called meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, - Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Thursday, February 27, 1964, beginning at 12:30 P.M., and with all members being present, viz., Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Dr. Fred T. Renick; Harry L. Boaz; Thomas J. Burch; and E. E. Stone. After the invocation, Mayor Wilson stated the purpose of the meeting, as cited in the required nJtice, i.e., (1) to take such action as may be approved and expedient to provide funds to enable the exercising of options on property included in land for the proposed airport in the Spencer (Virginia) area; and (2) to consider such other matters as may be properly brought before Council at this meeting. In the development of a new airport for the area, in accordance with information presented to Council in its special meeting which the City's share of the total projected cost would be $57,250.00, the City would be obligated for one-half of the cost of land (and present buildings). Council was informed that options on the following tracts of land are held by representatives of the Martinsville- Henry County Airport Development Corporation and that said options will terminate February 29, 1964: Tract No. and Owner Acreage & Cost Per Acre Total Cost 15.9 @ $350.00 $ 5,565.00 (52.4 @ $350.00 18,340.00 Buildings 12,000.00 57.2 @ $350.00 20,020.00 $ 55,925.00 1 - Josephine & Lucille Read 2 - E~na Blackard Perry 3 - E. Blackard, Jr. Note: Total acreage above - 125.5, with verbal option with Lester Lumber Company, Inc., for purchase of certain of their adjoining land to bring total requirement to approximately 180 acres.
