Council referred this request to the Planninr..; Commission for its <br /> <br />consideration and recommendation. <br /> <br />Also referred to the Planning Commission was the request, submitted by Martinsville Machine <br /> <br />'Norks under letter dato of Decerriber 30th, asking that its property at 1106 Memorial Boulevard, <br /> <br />South, be reclassified as 1I}'I_2r1 under the proposed Zoning Code and :Map. <br /> <br />After discussing various segments of the proposed new Zoning Code and Map, and after hearing <br /> <br />from a number of persons representine; business interests concerned i"dth proposed building <br /> <br />set-b2.ck requirements, Council continued this subject for further consideration, indicating <br /> <br />that it will meet with these representatives before Council's next regular meeting. <br /> <br />In tentatively accepting the Planning Commission report dated December 30, 1963, recommending <br /> <br />the rezoning of certain properties along the west side of Liberty Street, which properties are <br /> <br />owned by Messrs. Barron Gra.y Frith ane. John A. Jamison anrl by Mr. Charlie M. Finney, and <br /> <br />reconunending the rezoning of an additional area bounded by the north line of the present <br /> <br />IIB-2 Industrialll zone north of the Carolina 81: Northwestern Rail\'ray right-of-way, Council <br /> <br />called. for a duly-advertised public hearing on this proposed rezoning to be conducted at <br /> <br />Council's next regular meeting (January 11, 196h). <br /> <br />C o"J.ncil received-.-and continued for study--a report submitted by Southeastern Consulting <br /> <br />Engineers, Inc., rec ommendinf; certain voltage c onvers ions and certain capital improveme nts <br /> <br />in the City's Electric utility System, to keep pace with anticipated gI'O'frth and demands. <br /> <br />These improvements, the consultants recommended, should be undertaken within t.'le immediate <br /> <br />futu.::."G, with certain phases sTIread over the next seven years, cost of which i'Vas estimated at <br /> <br />15701,:;:;0. <br />
