<br />98 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEllliER 1 2, 1 96:3 <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst informed Council that construction of the new AnnolJT is <br /> <br />now underway, after some unavoidable delay. <br /> <br />Mr. John Redd Smith appeared before Council and expressed opp'Jsition to <br /> <br /> <br />sol:iciting and/or accepting by Council of Federal aid for local projects, <br /> <br /> <br />particularly such aid as migh-'::. be offered through the Federal Urban Renewal <br /> <br /> <br />progrwn, requesting that Council abandon its investigation of the availability <br /> <br />of such funds. Mr. Riev's S. Hodnett, former Mayor and Councilman, also <br /> <br /> <br />appeared befo!:'8 Coun~il and urged Council first to develop a plan for <br /> <br /> <br />rehabilitating the "downtownl1 business area and then give study towards <br /> <br /> <br />financing the cost of the wor~. <br /> <br />Upon being informed that property at 726 Prospect, Hill Drive has been owned <br /> <br />by the Forest Hills Presbyterian Church since October 20, 1962, and <br /> <br />accordingly is tax exempt, Council directed that 1963 real estate taxes <br /> <br />assessed against this property be waived. <br /> <br />Council acknol,vledged receipt of--and orde:cned filed for future consideration-- <br /> <br /> <br />a petition sub~itted by owners of property located on View Street, requesting <br /> <br /> <br />the construction of curb.-and-gutter along said street on a shared-cost basis. <br /> <br />Council also acknowledged receipt of w~ Audit Report, prepared by the State <br /> <br /> <br />Auditor of Public Accounts, covering the office of the City Circuit Court <br /> <br /> <br />Clerk for the calendar year 1962. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />W.
