1~

TUESDAY

NOVEMBER 12. 1963

~

By invitation from Council, Mr. Stafford G. Whittle, III, appeared before
Council to furnish additional information in support of his petition requesting
the rezoning to "B-1 Business" of prope:-ty located along the north side of

Brookdale Road and Spruce Street, on which petition the Planning Commission

has held no public hearing but has reco~nended that Council deny the petitioner's

request. Upon being informed that the petitioner might furnish additional

information requested by the Commission, the Council referred the request back

to tie Commission for its further consideration and supplemental reco~~endation.

,-

City Manager Hirst reminded Council of its public hearing on a proposed new

Zoning Code to be conducted November 18, 1963, in the Patrick Henry Elementary

Schoe) 1 auditorium, beginning at 7: 30 P.M.

City Manager Hirst reported that the sum of $96,500.00 has been allocated by

the Federal Government toward:':. cons-~ruction of a new Health Center, plans for

which are now being developed.

-

City Manager Hirst also reported that it is appropriate to renew consideration

of a request submitted several years ago by Mrs. J. P. Young, residing on

Crescent Street, asking that the City abandon right-of-way no longer required

by the City for Clearview Drive and that property owned by the City between

this former right-of-way and the present right'-of -way, consisting of .18 acres,

be deeded to Mrs. Young to provide her property frontage on the relocated

portion of Clearview Drive. In view of necesary sewer line easements across

the Young property, and in view of there being no apparent need by the City

for the property in question, Council expressed an inclination to grant Mrs.

Young's request, pending a study by City Manager Hirst and his recommendation

thereon.

_.
