_92

TUESDAY

OCTOBER 22, 1963

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia
in regular meeting assembled this 22nd day of October, 1963, that
the City's Zoning Code and Zoning Map be and are hereby amended to
reclassify to "B-1Businessll! the residue of three lots in North
Martinsville at the intersection of Northside Drive with Clearview
Drive, which three lots are owned by Lester Lumber Company, Inc.,
or its agents.

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that a front~yard requirement of fifty (50)
feet is hereby placed on this property.

, I
By report dated October 18, 1963, the Planning Commission advised that--

after considering a petition submitted by Mr. S. G. Whittle, III, requesting

the rezoning from "A-1 Residential" to "B-1 Business" of petitioner's

property on the east side of Brookdale and Spruce Streets--it recommends

denying said petition. Council was further advised that no public hearing

had been afforded the petitioner and, therefore, Council would hold action

in abeyance until Council's next regular meeting in order that the petitioner

might be given an opportunity to be heard, if he so desires.

By report dated October 18, 1963, the Planning Commission recommended granting

of the rezoning request filed with Council under date of September 10, 1963,

for and on behalf of Mrs. Freda D. Worthington and Mr. A. C. Drewery by

Attorney J:,hn D. Epperly, i.e., rezoning from "A-1 Residential" to "P-2

Professional" properties owned by petitioner(s) and located on the east side

of Cleveland Avenue at 7 & 9 Cleveland Avenue. The Commission also

reconmended that--in addition to these properties--all property on the

east side of Cleveland Avenue from (and including) the petitioners' property

southward to the Professional Building (located at 15 Cleveland Avenue)

be so rezoned, following the back lines of property fronting on said

Cleveland Avenue. Council, in accepting the Commission's recommendation,

called for a duly-advertised public hearing on the petition and proposal

to be conducted by Council at its next regular meeting to be held Tuesday,

November 12, 1963.
