<br />1~ <br /> <br />THURSDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBm 26. 196~ <br /> <br />/",-... <br /> <br />(a) Prillaman & Pace . . . . . . . . . . . . $ 7,377.00; <br />(b) Hudgins & Pace . . . . . . . . . . . . 4,963.00; and <br />(c) Hackl er-5 eymoUX' . . . . . . . . . . . . 7,900.00; <br /> <br />whereupon motion, duly seconded, Council unanimously accepted the low bid <br />submitted b.1 Hudgins & Pace. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />In connection with local industrial expansion, City Manager Hirst recommended that <br />an appropriation be made to finance the cost of obligations placed upon the City, <br />such as in the Pannill Knitting Company case; whereupon Council unanimously <br />appropriated one-half of the sum to be realized from the sale of land to 'West <br />Window Company (or, $7,000.00) for such purposes and directed that the other half <br />be placed in the ~arm-Airportn reserve account. <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />Council was informed that Mr'. Rives S. Ih'own, Jr., and Lanier Farm, Inc., are <br />contemplating the erecting of certain types of connnercial buildings on the east <br />side of Lester Street and that the City should decide if--and to what extent-- <br />Lester Street is to be widened before these buildings are erected. Council was <br />further informed that some right-of-way is available fran lanier Farm for the <br />widening of this street and that additional right-of-way wuld be made available <br />through a "friendly" condemnation suit. To pursue this matter further, Council <br />empowered City Attorney Cubine and City Manager Hirst to begin preliminary <br />negotiations with Lanier Farm for the right-of-way and to report back to Council <br /> <br />on same. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Dr. Charles J. Mathes, Director of the local Health Department, informed Council <br />that sane refund (of approximately $750.00) is due the City from the Commonwealth <br />of Virginia on the City's share of Health Department expenses for the year ended <br />
