<br />.68 <br /> <br />T~DAY <br /> <br />JUI;Y 23. 196~ <br /> <br />Although essentially in agreement with City Manager Hirst's recommendation <br />that a right-of'-way fund be established for use in acquiring right-of-~ <br /> <br />for street projects as show on the City's Thoroughfare Plan, Council deferred <br /> <br />action towards est_blishing such a fund pending further consideration of a <br /> <br />definite plan to be su1::mitted by City Manager Hirst. <br /> <br />In aclmovledging a request from the Virginia Mmicipal League f'or Council's <br />ideas and opinions with regard to the developing of a legislative program <br />that might be proposed by the league to the 1964 General Assembly, Council <br /> <br />referred the request to Councilman Thomas J. Burch, a member: of the Legislative <br />Committee of' the League, and to City Manager Hirst. <br /> <br />In response to a notice from the Higluay Safety Committee of the Virginia <br />Advisory Legislative Council of' a public hearing to be conducted by the <br />Committee in Roanoke on July 29, 1963, Council indicated that several of' the <br /> <br />City's law enforcement officers should attend the hearing. <br /> <br />Upon motion, Council unanimously accepted deeds from Messrs. C. C. Donavant <br /> <br />and R. A. Henderson, Jr., conveying certain right-of-way in connection with the <br />current Chatham Road widening proj ect (from (Mens Road to the east corporate <br />limits on Route 57) and, also, Council directed that letters expressing Council's <br /> <br />appreciation be written to Messrs. Donavant and Henderson f'or their donation of <br /> <br />the right-of-way. <br /> <br />Through City Manager Hirst, Council received a letter from Mr. Robert E. Eschmann, <br /> <br />of Corn Tassel Trail, expressing Mr. Eschmann's appreciation of' the courtesy <br />extended him by the 1963 Board of' E:}ualization during his appearance before the <br /> <br />Board. <br /> <br />r-., <br /> <br />.c: <br />\ ,=2 <br />J.
