<br />.22 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MARCH 12, 1963 <br /> <br />submi tted by the committee which the commLttee concluded would make a more <br /> <br />workable code for the area served and would offer better protection of health, <br /> <br />safety, sanitation, and general welfare of the City by regulating the installa-. <br /> <br />tion and maintenance of all plumbing which might connect to the City's water <br /> <br />and sewerage systems. This, it was pointed out, would apply to connections to <br /> <br />propertiGs outside the City's corporate limits. Council, after expressing its <br /> <br />appreciation to the committee, placed the proposed ordinance on first reading <br /> <br />for further consideration. <br /> <br />Taking cognizance of the retirement on February 28, 1963, of Mr. Tho~as <br /> <br />Daniel Lovell, Council (individually and collectively) expressed appreciation <br /> <br />on behalf of itself and the citizens of Martinsville of the mffilY years of <br /> <br />faithful service rendered by Mr. Lovell as an employee of the City's Electric <br /> <br />Department, Mr. Lovell having been continuously employed by the City of <br /> <br />Martinsville since August 1, 1922. <br /> <br />Council also ackno1Nledged with appreciation the annual report--for the year 1962-- <br /> <br />of the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company- and com.mended both the Volunteer Fire <br /> <br />Company and the City's regular Fire Department upon national recognition won for <br /> <br />the City of MarLinsville in 1962 fire prevention activities, Martinsville having <br /> <br />been a~arded--in National Fire Protection Association competition--ninth place <br /> <br />among all cities in the United States; second place among all cities in Virginia; <br /> <br />and first place renong all cities of like class (Class 6) in the United States. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />1~~_,.~ <br />W.
