<br />:6 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />J:l[I1JE 26. 1 962 <br /> <br />Upon petition by Attorney H. H. M9.cBryde, Jr., representing the Anderson <br />Memorial Presbyterian Church, Council directed that property located <br />at 308 ThOI:las Heights and recently ptn'chased by the church from !ox. and <br />I1rs. Claude E. Taylor, Jr., be exempt from local real estate taxation <br />as of June 1, 1962. <br /> <br />Mr. James C. Stone, of Virginia-Carolina Trucking Company, appeared before <br />Council and informed Council that his firm now owns a tract of land on <br />Stultz Road on which it intends relocating its offices and terminal, <br />necessitating major improvements to Stultz Road or a new street to <br />accommodate heavy truck traffic in the direction of Route 108. Mr. Stone <br />advised Council that he has already appeared before the Henry County Board <br />of Supervisors with a similar request, involving the portion of Stultz <br />Road located wi thin the County of Iimry between the terminal site and Route <br />220 North, and that there is a possibility of industrial access road funds <br />being made available by the State Highway Department for the improving of <br />Stultz Road within the county; whereupon Council suggested that the City <br />join with the County of Henry in requesting such funds that the entire project <br />might be financed from such funds. <br /> <br />Council deferred action, pending a recommendation by the Commissioner of <br />the Revenue, on the Martinsvil1e Y>iwanis Club I s request for a refu nd of <br />local license tax (of $75.00) paid by the Kiwanis Club in connection with its <br />sponsorship of Circus Amusements, Inc., in a charitable fund-raising project. <br /> <br />City Vanager Hirst informed Council that national civil defense a11thorities <br /> <br /> <br />are now engaged in a large-scale survey of facilities which could be <br /> <br />designated as community "fall-out" shelters, with the purpose of stoelting <br /> <br />..
