TUESDAY

JUNE 26t 1962

,-

Your Planning Cannnission at its meeting on this date gave further
consideration to the matter of a new high school location approved
by City Council subject to concurrence of your Commission. It is
the feeling of the Commission that it must concur in your approval
recognizing the fact that this is not an ideal location. The
Commission was at a loss to suggest a more suitable location,
however, it would like to recommend that the final agreement on
the property contain a clause under which the property might be
resold to the grantor at the purchase price for a reasonable length
of time.

The COrmUssion respectfully suhnits the above for Council's further
consideration.

After reviewing recommendations recently submitted, involving the removal

and/or relocating of certain on-street parldng meters in the central business

district, and after hearing from Hr. Leon Glohman (of the Citizens' Parking
Conunittee) on this subject as well as-by letter-from Hr. George Black (of

leed's Music Center), Council directed that only certain of these recanrnendations

be presently effected, viz., those verbally specified in its recent viewing

of the streets and meters involved.

In connection with the requested vacating and abandoning of a portion of an

unopened street known as Sunset Drive, for which petition was filed wi th

Council on May 22, 1962, by Attorney Frar.k I. Richardson, Jr., (counsel for

George L. Nease, Helen W. Nease, Harold P. Williams, and Dorothy S. Williams),

Council appointed Bessrs. J. E. Jones, R. A. Henderson, Jr., and Clarence C.

Donavant to serve as a Board of Viewers, proceeding in accordance with Section

15-766 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, and as &~ended.

Council accepted with regrets the resignations--recently submitted--of Messrs.

Stafford G. w::.1.ittle, IT I, and S. M. Hedgecock as members of the City Planning
CommiSSion, effective June 30, 1 %2.
