<br />I <br />.. <br /> <br />TUESDA: <br /> <br />!1AI 22. 1 962 <br /> <br />,-' <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville is desirous of participating <br />with the State Department of Highways and the Federal Bureau <br />of Public Roads in a project mown as 0058-120-101 ,C-501 designed <br />to widen Route 58 from its intersection with Bob Gregory 'street <br />east to the East corporate limits of the City of Martinsville; and <br /> <br />WlEREAS, it will be the responsibility of the City to employ legal <br />counsel for title search and deed preparation necessary to acquisition <br />of rights-of-wy for this project; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville does not maintain an organization <br />adequate for title search and acquiring right-of-way as a part of its <br />normal operating staff; now, therefore, <br /> <br />.......-..... <br /> <br />BE rr RESODlED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-second day of May, 1%2 <br />that Mr. Frank I. Richardson, Jr., Martinsville, Virginia, qualified <br />attorney-at-law practicing in the City of Martinsville, is hereby <br />appointed to perform the legal duties necessary for title seach and <br />deed preparation for the aforementioned project. <br /> <br />On behalf of George L. Nease, Helen W. Nease, Harold P. tilliams, and Dorothy <br /> <br />S. Williams, petitioners, lAttorney Frank I. Richardlon, Jr., requested Council <br /> <br />to order vacated and abandoned that portion of an 1.mopened street known as <br /> <br />Sunset Drive lying within the corporate limits and extending to the south <br /> <br />corporate limits west of Route 220 South or Memorial Boulevard South; whereupon, <br /> <br />Council referred this matter to the Planning Commission for its consideration <br /> <br />and recommendation and, also, agreed to appoint a Board of Viewers, consisting <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />of three qualified citizens, to proceed in accordance with Section 15-766 of the <br /> <br />CODE <F VmGINIA, 1950, and as amended. <br /> <br />COWlcil acknowledged receipt of a letter from Mr. Daniel Greene, President of <br /> <br />the Martinsville Retail Merchants A3sociation, in which letter Mr. Greene cited <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />the need for repairing certain sidewalks in the downtown business area, the <br />need for improving the appearance of properties along West Church Street from <br />Moss Street to Fayette Street, and the desire that directional signs be <br /> <br />strategically placed to direct persons to the downtown business district. <br />
