Hedgeeock, speaking as a ei tizen and not as a member of the <br /> <br />Planning Commission, tn'ged Council to initiate annexation proceedings <br /> <br />on the basis of the Planning Commission f s recommended boundary lines. <br /> <br />Messrs. R. M. Simmons, Sr., R. M. Simmons, Jr., and Jack F. Hankins, of <br />the American Furnittn'e Company, expressed then- wholehearted objection <br />to the proposed annexing of the Ameriean property mown as "Red level", <br />consisting of S3 acres of land and its site far a new plant southeast of <br />the City, and also their objection to the City's committed extension of <br />water and sewer mains to the airport tract. These gentlemen also urged <br />Council to defer initiating any annexation proceedings until the cost to <br />the City is more definitely determined and such cost is determined as being <br />unburdensane. <br /> <br />Mr. Wade A. Lawrence, President of the Rivermont Heights Corporation, with <br />whieh non-profit organization the City executed a contract on July 22, 1952, <br />pertaining to the furnishing of water to the Rivermont Heights area, appeared <br />before Council with a document signed by 191 persons, representing 1S5 homes, <br />of the Ri vermont Heights area stating their opposition to being annexed to <br />the City of Martinsville. other persons speaking on the subjeet of annexation <br />were: M1:'. William F. Franck, President of Sale Knitting Company, expressing <br />sympathy with the American Furniture Companyfa position stated on its "Red <br />!evel" property but favoring annexation of the airport tract; Mr. Emory <br />Goode, a resident of Henry County; Mr. Sam Gusler, Chairman of the Henry County <br />Board of Supervisors, in opposition to proposed annexation; Mr. C. M. Finney; <br />Mr. R. fA.
