Ir-"fl
-.l ~) U

TUESDAY

AUGUST 26, 1969

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsvi11e,

Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick (M.D.) presiding, was held Tuesday, August

26, 1969, beginning at 7:30 P.M., in the Council Chamber, City Hall, with

all members being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick (M.D.); Vice-Mayor Francis

T. West; Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson.

After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular

meeting held August 12, 1969.

In connection with Mr. William C. Edwards' inquiry and request before Council

at its August 12th meeting, concerning curb-and-gutter petition for Swanson

Street (between Armstead and Lincoln Streets), Public Works Director George W.

Brown recommended that said petition be designated as first alternate to the

curb-and-gutter projects recently authorized by Council for the current budget

year, indicating the possibility that--inasmuch as a segment of the Mulberry

Road project will not participate in the program this year and, too, perhaps

another one or two approved projects also might not qua1ify--the Swanson Street

project could be inserted into the current program; however, if not possible to

include during the current year, that it be included in the 1970-71 program.

Mr. Brown explained that quite some time will be required for planning and

engineering details on this project and for the conferring with property owners

in order that they might become aware of the effect (of the curb-and-gutter

construction) upon their property, especially as to driveway entrances. Upon

motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council accepted Mr. Brown's

report and recommendation.
