<br />-l~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 22, 1969 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, July 22, <br /> <br />1969, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members <br /> <br />being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Vice-Mayor Francis T. West; <br /> <br />Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council postponed the reading of the minutes of its <br /> <br />regular meeting held July 8, 1969, until its forthcoming August 12th meeting, <br /> <br />because of the absence of its Clerk. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing <br /> <br />on the requested closing of that portion of liD" Street which lies between <br /> <br />Fourth Street and Roundabout Road, which request had previously been favorably <br /> <br />reported on by both the City's Planning Commission and a duly-constituted Board <br /> <br />of Viewers. There being no objections registered by anyone to the proposed <br /> <br />closing of this street section, Council unanimously adopted the following ordinance <br /> <br />effecting said closing: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, by petition dated April 7, 1969 and filed with Martinsville <br />City Council on April 8, 1969, residents of liD" Street requested the <br />closing and vacating of that portion of "D" Street which lies between <br />Fourth Street and Roundabout Road; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, under date of May 21, 1969 the Martinsville Planning Commission, <br />having duly considered said petition and having conducted a public hearing <br />on same, recommended that the portion of "D" Street between Fourth Street <br />and Fifth Street, and the portion between Fifth Street and Roundabout <br />Road, be closed and abandoned subject to the reserving by the City of <br />proper utility easements through both portions of said street; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, under date of June 23, 1969, a duly-constituted Board of <br />Viewers reported that, in its opinion, no inconvenience would result <br />to anyone by the discontinuance and abandonment of said portions of said <br />street; and <br />
