<br />-1-1 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 8, 1969 <br /> <br />either by merging of governmental services or by annexing of adjoining urbanized <br /> <br />and industrialized areas, emphasizing and protecting the interests of the citizens <br /> <br />of Martinsville to whom the Council has a basic responsibility. <br /> <br />Mayor Renick informed Council that, as a result of recent heavy and sudden rains, <br /> <br />some citizens in the Finley Street area have complained of flooding conditions <br /> <br />in the area. Council was informed that, several years ago, the City installed <br /> <br />certain facilities to eliminate or alleviate such conditions, insofar as the <br /> <br />City could in this direction. Meanwhile, Council asked Public Works Director <br /> <br />George W. Brown to re-examine these facilities and installations to assure that <br /> <br />the City has discharged every responsibility it might have in this matter. <br /> <br />Through Mayor Renick, Dr. J. H. Irby, as a member of the local Council on <br /> <br />Human Relations, extended an invitation to any and all citizens to attend <br /> <br />meetings of this group. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />~.~~~- <br />W.
