<br />. ~" <br />J:-~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 8, 1969 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, July 8, <br /> <br />1969, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members <br /> <br />being present, viz., F. T. Renick, M.D., Mayor; Francis T. West, Vice-Mayor; <br /> <br />Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held June 24, 1969. <br /> <br />By report dated July 3, 1969, the Martinsville Planning Commission recommended <br /> <br />the amending of the City's Zoning Ordinance to permit the installation and/or <br /> <br />construction of marquees and/or awnings, as follows: <br /> <br />SECTION II - Definitions <br />Insert between "Lot, through" and "Motel" the following definition: <br />"Marquee" - Any fixed canopy or other covered structure, other than a <br />projecting sign, which is structurally a part of a building, <br />projecting from and wholly supported by the building and <br />extending beyong the building wall. <br /> <br />SECTION VI - Dimension Regulations <br />Paragraph B, sub-paragraph 2 - General <br />Add these sentences: <br />"In the C-2 and C-3 districts marquees, fixed and movable awnings may <br />project over the required front yard and over a publicly-owned sidewalk <br />space for two-thirds the width of such sidewalk space but not closer <br />than three feet to the curb face adjacent to the street." <br /> <br />Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing, on the proposed amendments, <br /> <br />to be conducted at Council's forthcoming August 12th meeting. <br /> <br />Continuing its consideration of a proposed Job Classification-&-Pay Plan for <br /> <br />City employees, and after some inquiry, Council approved said proposed Plan, <br /> <br />including the position of Fire Inspector inadvertently omitted from draft of <br /> <br />Plan, as follows: <br /> <br />(see insert) <br />
