43

TUESDAY

JUNE 10, 1969

matter to the Planning Commission, urging expeditious consideration, in order

that the Council may render its decision within the next thirty days and, certainly,

not later than six weeks.

By letter dated June 5, 1969, Mr. Ralph C. Lester, President of Nationwide Homes,

Inc., requested that his firm's rezoning petition filed with Council under date

of April 22, 1969, and under same date referred to the Planning Commission for

its consideration and recommendation, be "tabled", pending further study by

petitioner of his (or its) land use. Council referred this subsequent request

to the Planning Commission.

In recognition of the selection of John Carroll Bryant, a local high school student

(residing at 717 Windsor Lane), as a member of a music group (band) leaving the

United States on June 12th for an extensive tour of Europe, Mayor Renick presented

this student with letters of introduction of him to the various European countries

and cities to be visited, as an honorary ambassador from Martinsville.

Mr. J. B. Frith, President of Frith Construction Company, appeared before Council

and requested permission to extend a water main from the Industrial Park to a new

operations center (for his company), now under construction, adjacent to the

Industrial Park, to provide "domestic" water service for this new facility. As

developer-owner of several facilities within the Industrial Park as well as in

the area adjacent thereto, Mr. Frith pointed out the similarity of all of these

facilities and recommended that the City extend its governing regulations--

applicable to the Industrial Park's present confines--to include certain other

properties within a larger boundary, designating the expanded area as part of

the Industrial Park. Council was apprised of requests for water service from a

number of individuals and areas beyond and outside the expanded boundary lines
