<br />-I- 'J <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 1 3 . 1969 <br /> <br />Council referred to City Attorney Cubine, for study and recommendation, the <br /> <br />matter and/or need of updating the City's Code, particularly its Traffic and <br /> <br />Criminal Codes, to parallel current State statutes. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted the <br /> <br />following resolution regarding a proposed "Martinsville By-Passll, as described <br /> <br />in said resolution, endorsing--as to general principle and general route--said <br /> <br />proposed highway project: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Highways of the Commonwealth of Virginia <br />proposes to design and construct a new highway--identified as Route <br />212 ( and/or "Martinsville By-Passll) --from Routes 220 and 57 at a point <br />known as "Bassett Forks", northwest of Martinsville, in a easterly <br />direction west, south, and southeast of Martinsville, all in the County <br />of Henry, to a point 3.4 miles east of the City's east corporate limits <br />to Route 58 East; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Martinsville, having been apprised <br />of this proposed construction project and of its general location and <br />purposes, is in general agreement with same; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this thirteenth day of May, 1969, that--as to <br />general principle and general route--it unanimously endorses said <br />proposed highway project; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that copies of this resolution <br />be filed with the Virginia Highway Commission and with the Virginia <br />Department of Highways. <br /> <br />By letter from Mrs. Clyde W. Holt, Sr., of 1216 Rives Road Extended, residents <br /> <br />of the Rives Road Extended-Lawson Street area, who requested the rezoning of <br /> <br />their properties by petition filed April 22, 1969, withdrew said petition. <br /> <br />The original petition having been filed with the Planning Commission, Council <br /> <br />referred the withdrawal request to the Commission as notice to the Commission <br /> <br />of request for withdrawal. <br />
