<br />',) (, <br />,) ~. <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MARCH 11. 1969 <br /> <br />,.,0- <br /> <br />As a companion matter to the foregoing, Council adopted the following resolution <br /> <br />requesting the Virginia Highway Commission to reconstruct that portion of Rives <br /> <br />Road Extended as lies between Morrison Street and the City's south corporate <br /> <br />limits, under the conditions and for the purpose set forth in said resolution: <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE VIRGINIA HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO RECONSTRUCT <br />A PORTION OF RIVES RDAD EXTENDED, SUBJECT TO TERMS AND CONDITIONS <br />HEREINAFTER SET FORTH <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Nationwide Homes, Inc., has acquired--or is acquiring--property <br />off Rives Road Extended, in Martinsville, Virginia, for the purpose of <br />constructing an industrial facility from which considerable motor <br />vehicular traffic will be generated; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a section of said Rives Road Extended, as hereinafter described, <br />must be reconstructed and improved not only to accommodate and expedite <br />the traffic to and from the proposed Nationwide Homes plant, as well as <br />to and from other area industries, but also to provide a suitable road <br />link for the movement of heavy traffic to and from the industrial access <br />road--now under construction, to the cost of which the City of Martins- <br />ville has contributed the sum of $100,000.00--beginning at the City's <br />south corporate limits and extending southwesterly to a connection with <br />U. S. Route 220 (South), all in the County of Henry; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled this eleventh day of March, 1969, that it doth <br />hereby request the Virginia Highway Commission to reconstruct said <br />section of Rives Road Extended, viz., that portion from Morrison Street, <br />in the City of Martinsville, south to the City's south corporate limits, <br />being a distance of .55 of a mile, in accordance with the Commission's <br />industrial access road standards, which--according to the estimate of the <br />Virginia Department of Highways--will cost the sum of $60,000.00; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that it doth hereby request said <br />Virginia Highway Commission, if the Commission grants the foregoing <br />request, to assume the maximum share (of the cost of this project) allow- <br />able from its Industrial Access Funds and/or its Urban Funds; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that, subject to the granting by <br />the Virginia Highway Commission of the Council's foregoing requests, <br />the City of Martinsville will: <br />(1) Provide the right-of-way necessary for the construction <br />and maintenance of this project; <br />(2) assume the total cost of relocating any City utility lines, <br />as necessarily may be required by the reconstruction and/or <br />relocating of this roadway; and <br />(3) pay to the Commonwealth of Virginia the difference between <br />the total construction cost of this project and the total of <br />funds available from and/or provided by: <br />(a) private sources, now known to be $2,000.00; <br />(b) matching by the Virginia Department of Highways <br />of p~ivate-source funds; and <br />(c) the Virginia Highway Commission from its <br />Industrial Access Funds and/or its Urban Funds. <br />
