<br />~ 0 I <br />) ()-1 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 11, 1969 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, <br /> <br />February 11, 1969, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., <br /> <br />all members being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Vice-Mayor Francis <br /> <br />T. West; Harry L. Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its <br /> <br />regular meetings held January 28, 1969 and January 30, 1969. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing <br /> <br />on a request--previously approved by the Planning Commission--that the Easley <br /> <br />property, at 600 starling Avenue, be rezoned to IIC-2 Commercialll. There <br /> <br />being no objections registered by anyone against the proposed rezoning, <br /> <br />Council unanimously adopted the following ordinance effecting the rezoning <br /> <br />and amending the City's Zoning Code and Map: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this eleventh day of February, 1969, <br />that the City's Zoning Code and Zoning Map be, and are hereby, amended <br />to reclassify--for zoning purposes--to "C-2 Commercial" that property <br />located at 600 Starling Avenue, being the southwest corner of Aaron <br />Street and Starling Avenue, and identified as the "Easley" property. <br /> <br />Mr. John D. Epperly, Attorney at Law and Counsel for LaMar Dean Outdoor <br /> <br />Advertising Company of North Carolina, Inc., appeared before Council and <br /> <br />requested that the date (of March 24, 1969) specified in Subsection IIG" of <br /> <br />Section X of the City's Zoning Ordinance--being the final date for compliance <br /> <br />with regulations regarding signs in the City--be extended to January 1, 1970, <br /> <br />inasmuch as his client has five leases in effect (for non-conforming signs), <br /> <br />four of which will expire in 1969 and the fifth on January 1, 1970. Upon <br /> <br />motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council postponed said final <br />
