<br />3 r-r ..' <br />~ i i <br /> <br />MONDAY <br /> <br />DECMEBER 30. 1968 <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Noland, Council approved--for execution <br /> <br />by Mayor Renick--a contract between the City and the United States Department <br /> <br />of Justice (Bureau of Prisons) for use of the City's Jail for l1temporaryl1 or <br /> <br />occasional custody of Federal prisoners, at $2.00 per prisoner per day. <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration and <br /> <br />recommendation, the following letter (dated December 30, 1968) from Childress- <br /> <br />West, Inc., by its President, Mr. T. J. Childress, Jr.: <br /> <br />"The City of Martinsville owns property situated on Cleveland Avenue <br />and known as the Central Grammar School. <br />l1We would be interested in purchasing this property under the following <br />conditions: <br />1. That the building be razed. <br />2. That the dirt be removed to street level. I understand the city <br />needs this earth for filling in the new street running to <br />Ellsworth. <br />j. That the property be rezoned to C2 commercial. <br />4. That the property be priced within 60 days if possible." <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />w. Hobson to--and <br /> <br />as a member of--the special advisory committee recently named to study and <br /> <br />recommend to Council the rearranging of local voting district boundary lines <br /> <br />(and polling places) to bring into compliance with Virginia election laws <br /> <br />applicable thereto. <br />
