After accepting, with appreciation, the following offer from the Martinsville

Jaycees, Inc., through its resolution dated December 12, 1968, Council authorized

the exercising of option held by the City to purchase the "Barnes property" (from

Joseph P. Barnes and Nancy M. Barnes, wife), being a tract consisting of 4.91

acres adjacent to property recently purchased from Mrs. Margaret M. Sprinkle:

WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville has purchased a 12-acre tract of land
in the southern part of the City known as "the Sprinkle Property" for
development as a public park; and,

WHEREAS, a better development and more useful park facility can be
built by the inclusion of an additional 4.91 acre tract adjoining the
Sprinkle property, which additional tract has been optioned by the
City of Martinsville at the suggestion and request of the Martinsville
Jaycee Park Development Committee for a purchase price of $7,000.

NOW, TEHREFORE, be it resolved that the appropriate officers of the
Joycees Youth Activities, Inc., the charitable corporation operated
by the Martinsville Jaycees, are authorized to commit up to $7,000
of its Community Development Funds towards providing improvements
for this park if the City of Martinsville will purchase the additional
4.91 acre tract and will plan, grade and landscape the combined
properties as a city park-recreation area.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Martinsville Jaycees will exert
their best efforts to induce other civic clubs and area organizations
to add such further improvements as full use of this facility might
require, it being understood that all such participants will be recog-
nized for their efforts by the Jaycees and the City of Martinsville
through appropriate plaques, monuments or other forms of materials.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I, Conrad Knight, have hereunto set my hand
and seal, this the twelfth day of December, 1968.
