<br />3t <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 26. 1968 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, November 26, 1968, <br />in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being <br /> <br />p~esent, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Francis T. West, Vice-Mayor; Harry L. <br /> <br />Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and William D. Hobson. <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held November 12, 1968, and, with one correction--as to counties <br /> <br />proposed to comprise the local Planning District--, the minutes of its special <br /> <br />meeting held November 25, 1968. <br /> <br />Pursuant to its action during regular meeting held April 23, 1968, Council <br /> <br />authorized the executing of a contract (dated November 26, 1968) with Lester <br /> <br />Lllmber Company, Inc., replacing similar contract or agreement dated December 17, <br /> <br />1965, transferring water and sewer service conditions--formerly applicable to <br /> <br />premises occupied by Kilby's Drive-In Restaurant along the north side of Route 220 <br /> <br />North, just outside the City's Corporate Limits--to a new building and premises, <br /> <br />at same location, leased by Lester Lumber Company to Humble Oil & Refining Company <br /> <br />for construction and operation of an automobile service station. <br /> <br />Mr. Erskine White, Regional Deputy Coordinator of Civil Defense, along with <br /> <br />representatives of the University of Virginia's School of General Studies and <br /> <br />the Federal Civil Defense Agency, appeared before Council and presented an outline <br /> <br />of procedures--subject to Council's approval--for conduct of a simulated civil <br /> <br />defense elnergency exercise in (and for) Martinsville on Thursday, February 27, <br /> <br />1969. After some discussion, Council authorized the conduct of the exercise <br /> <br />as proposed. <br />
