<br />135 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 12. 1968 <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of a letter (dated November 8, 1968) from Dr. <br /> <br />Hiram W. Davis, Commissioner of the State Department of Mental Hygiene & <br /> <br />Hospitals, calling Council's attention to legislation enacted by the 1968 <br /> <br />Virginia General Assembly whereby authority is given Dr. Davis' Department <br />to broaden its activities in participating with localities in providing <br />local mental health services. Dr. Davis further advised that, if the City <br />of Martinsville and the community wish to take advantage of programs available <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />under the new and revised legislation, it will be necessary to initiate timely <br /> <br />action toward establishment of a Board in order that local program requests <br /> <br />may be submitted to the State Department for inclusion in the Department's <br /> <br />budget request to the 1Q70 General Assembly. Mayor Renick reported that he <br /> <br />has conferred--and/or will confer--with the local Mental Health Clinic to <br /> <br />ascertain interest, needs, and recommendations thereon. <br /> <br />Mr. C. P. Lamm, Division Manager of Lee Telephone Company, appeared before <br /> <br />Council and presented a status report of its mechanical equipment expansion <br /> <br />program now in progress designed to keep abreast of growing needs and to <br /> <br />better serve the system's customers in the Martinsville division. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />~'tc ' <br />W .J.
