~ "
~) i.

TUESDAY

OCTOBER 8. 1968

City Attorney Cubine and City Manager Noland also pointed out that the

1968 General Assembly enacted legislation to provide more restrictive control

over abandoned automobiles; whereupon, Council instructed the City Attorney

to prepare a suggested-and-parallel amendment to the City Code for Council's

consideration.

Council acknowledged receipt of a letter from the Traffic-and-Transportation

Committee of the local Chamber of Commerce pertaining to the City's street

thoroughfare plans and, specifically, regarding the need for widening and

improving Brookdale Road, the safety of pedestrian traffic generated by the

relocation (and construction) of the new senior high school on Northside

Drive, and suggested temporary solutions to problems created thereby. Inas-

much as State aid is a factor in the reconstruction of Brookdale Road,

Public Works Director George W. Brown indicated that he would hope to report

on the extent of this factor at Council1s next regular meeting.

Council was informed of the following meetings of interest:

(1) on Crime Commission-and-Control, John Marshall Hotel, Richmond,

Virginia, November 8th; and

(2) an area meeting to be conducted in Martinsville, November 13th,

by the State Planning Agency, regarding the Hahn Study Commission

Report and legislation in connection therewith.

Council was adjourned.

W. <~5.\';"~~~; "Clerk of Council
