Brown indicated that the

City is nearing the completion of the original seven-year sewerage system

improvement program, with the last segment of the Jones Creek Interceptor

(now under construction) scheduled for completion within six weeks to two

months and with two replacement projects yet to be constructed following

advertisement for bids in the near future, viz.,

(1) Smith Lake Road - from W. M. Bassett plant to treatment plant; and
(2) Askin Street line.

Mr. Brown further informed Council that:

(1)

Interceptor lines have been designed and constructed of
sufficient capacity or size to accommodate certain areas
adjoining the City's north and west corporate limits, in
the event the City wishes, pending agreement upon contractural
torms by parties involved;
it is anticipated that the City will be required to provide
secondary treatment by 1972; and
sewer connection applications are being processed as expeditiously
as possible and that premises now served by septic tanks will be
re1uired to connect, if accessible.

( 2)
(3)

In response to inquiry by City Manager Noland, Council authorized the

expansion of leaf-disposal service, heretofore limited to naturally-deposited

leaves within street rights-of-way, to the extent the Manager deems the City

is able to prQvide with its one piece of equipment, without establishing

precedent which might tend to create demands for this type of service beyond

the present ability to so provide.
