<br />B, <br /> <br />THURSDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 26, 1968 <br /> <br />Mr. George W. Brown, Director of Public Works, informed Council that--in <br /> <br />connection with authorized curb-and-gutter construction for Glade Street-- <br /> <br />a request has been received from the owner of property at the southeast <br /> <br />corner of Glade and Ainsley Streets for construction of curb-and-gutter on <br /> <br /> <br />the Ainsley Street side-lot line of said property, which fronts the west <br /> <br /> <br />side of Glade Street, and, also, from the owners of three lots fronting <br /> <br /> <br />the northwest side of Ainsley Street, opposite the side-lot line of the <br /> <br />corner lot hereinabove referred to. Mr. Brown pointed out that, because <br /> <br />the owner of property adjoining the three lots along Ainsley Street does <br /> <br />not desire to participate in curb-and-gutter construction, the granting <br /> <br />of said requests would constitute a variance from the City's policy <br /> <br />governing curb-and-gutter construction; nevertheless, on the other hand, <br /> <br />the construction requested would solve a drainage problem which would <br /> <br />otherwise remain; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, <br /> <br />Council authorized the construction of said curb-and-gutter, as requested, <br /> <br />on a shared-cost basis. <br /> <br />Public Works Director George W. Brown also informed Council that original <br /> <br />plans for the Jones Creek Sewer Interceptor Project anticipated right-of-way <br /> <br />for same being available along the east side of Jones Creek in the area now <br /> <br />occupied by the Plaza Shopping Center; however, the subsequent construction <br /> <br />of the shopping center has made it necessary to adjust the proposed alignment <br /> <br />of the sewer interceptor in this area, with the only logical recourse being <br /> <br />across the property of Don Calaman, Inc., on the west side of Jones Creek. <br /> <br />Through the cooperation of Mr. Don Calaman and his firm, right-of-way <br /> <br />easement for 696 feet across the Calaman property has been made available <br /> <br />(at the cU:3tomary price of 50rf: per foot); however, because of inconvenience <br /> <br />the construction of this line would cause the Calaman firm, Mr. Calaman has <br />
