<br />:~G <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />AUGUST 27, 1968 <br /> <br />of these courts to proceed as City forces are available; and cost to be <br /> <br />financed from School Fund surplus. <br /> <br />In connection with the August 26th inquiry of Dr. M. 0, Johnson, of the <br /> <br />local Community Action Agency, with regard to the status of this agency <br /> <br />and requesting a meeting with Council thereon, City Manager Noland <br /> <br />reported--and was directed to so inform Dr. Johnson--that there are no <br /> <br />available Federal funds for the local Agency inasmuch as this organization <br /> <br />came into being too late to qualify for funds and inasmuch as the Federal <br /> <br />population restriction also disqualifies the local Agency. Meanwhile, <br /> <br />Council indicated its willingness to discuss the status of the local <br /> <br />unit with representatives thereof at their mutual convenience. <br /> <br />Pursuant to an action by Council during its regular meeting held July 23, <br /> <br />1968, and pursuant to Section 2.1-64.49 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and <br /> <br />as amended), the following officials and citizens were named to constitute <br /> <br />the local Highway Safety Commission: <br /> <br />(1) The Honorable Fred T. Renick, M.D., Mayor (Chairman); <br /> <br />(2) The Honorable W. Donald Hartford, Councilman; <br /> <br />(3) Mr. Emory J. Bolejack, Chief of Police; <br /> <br /> <br />(4) Mr. Irving R. McGhee, Traffic & Planning Engineer; <br /> <br />(5) Mr. Harold B. Cumberledge, Principal, Martinsville Jurrior High <br />School, and Director of Driver Education; <br /> <br />(6) Mr. J. Shelton Scales, Vice President, Burch-Hodges-Stone, Inc.; and <br /> <br />(7) Mr. James B.
