Pitzer, Jr., <br /> <br />referred to the Planning Commission from Council meeting of July 9, 1968, <br /> <br />requesting the closing of that portion of "C" Street between Fifth Street <br /> <br />and Roundabout Road, the Commission recommended that petition be granted, <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />subject to retention by the City of any and all utility easements within <br /> <br />the street space. In tentative acceptance of the Commission's recommendation, <br /> <br />Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing to be held on this matter <br /> <br />at Council's forthcoming September 10th meeting. <br /> <br />Upon recomn_endation of City Manager Noland and of Welfare Superintendent <br /> <br />Odell W. Gray, Jr., Council authorized the establishment of a "food stamp" <br /> <br />program for the City of Martinsville on a "trial basis", i.e., after a <br /> <br />reasonable period of time, an appraisal not only of the local need and the <br /> <br />degree of participation by eligible persons but also the burden upon local <br /> <br />administrative personnel and the cost thereof, both current and anticipated. <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration and <br /> <br />recommendation, the August 16th request of The Twin City Grocery Company, <br /> <br />Inc., that I"ot No. 85, at 212 Franklin Street, be rezoned from "C-2" to <br /> <br />"M_1" . <br /> <br />Upon request of interested citizens, continued from Council's meeting of <br /> <br />June 18, 1968, Council authorized the construction--by City personnel--of <br /> <br />six tennis courts at the City's new High School site (Off Northside Drive), <br /> <br />to cost approximately $15,000.00-$18,000.00, grading for three of these <br /> <br />courts already included in the High School construction project; construction <br /> <br />.. --0' _'~"'__'''_____~_____,..."_."._._._,_ <br />
