<br />3 4 <br />Q <br />i <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 25, 1968 <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration and <br /> <br />recommendation, a petition presented by Mr. Sherman Mahan requesting the <br /> <br />vacating and closing of the un-used portion of "F" Street situated between <br /> <br />Second and First Streets. <br /> <br />In order to eliminate a minor encroachment upon the rear lot line of the <br /> <br />former city hall property by a building owned by the Schottland Estate, <br /> <br />Council adopted the following resolution authorizing Mayor Renick to <br /> <br />execute deed conveying to the Schottland interests--represented by the <br /> <br />Piedmont Trust Bank--the small strip of land involved: <br /> <br />WrtEREAS, for a number of years, a building or buildings owned by <br />the late M. R. Schottland and/or member(s) of his family, located <br />on the north side of East Church Street and adjacent to the rear <br />of City-owned property fronting the south side of East Main Street, <br />has encroached slightly upon said City-owned property; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, both the City of Martinsville and the Agent for the <br />Schottland interest (viz., the Piedmont Trust Bank, Martinsville, <br />Virginia) desire to abate said encroachment by the conveying by <br />the City of Martinsville to the Schottland interests of such land <br />necessary so to do, being a strip .29' at its widest point and <br />di.minishing to zero within the lot line distance of 57.39 feet, <br />as shown on may prepared by J. A. Gustin & Associates under date <br />of March 5, 1968; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-fifth day of June, 1968, <br />that the Honorable F. T. Renick, M.D., V~yor, be--and is hereby-- <br />authorized to execute deed to accomplish the aforestated purpose <br />and, thus, to realign property line between the two aforementioned <br />owners. <br /> <br />City Attorney Cubine verbally reported on the June 21st regional hearing <br /> <br />conducted by the Constitutional Study Commission in Roanoke, Virginia, <br /> <br />at which meeting Mr. Cubine represented the City. <br />
