<br />:5 1 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 25, 1968 <br /> <br />Having recently viewed the several streets for which curb-and-gutter and/or <br /> <br />sidewalk petitions (for construction) have been duly filed, Council approved <br /> <br />the petitions and construction schedule proposed and recommended by the <br /> <br />Department of Public Works for the year 1968-69. <br /> <br />Pursuant to recent request of Council, City Attorney Cubine presented a copy, <br /> <br />with verbal comments, of current statutes pertaining to the regulation and <br /> <br />control--if any--of automobile junkyards, dilapidated buildings, and the <br /> <br />outside storage of personal property. With specific emphasis on such junkyards <br /> <br />and on outside storage of personal property, Council suggested that the City <br /> <br />Attorney attempt to draft an ordinance which would provide better control <br /> <br /> <br />(through ~ore stringent regulations) than present statutes provide; meanwhile, <br /> <br />suggesting, also that City officials contact owners of offending premises in <br /> <br />an effort to persuade such owners to make their premises attractive. <br /> <br />In connection with the purchase option recently authorized regarding the <br /> <br />property of Mrs. Margaret Sprinkle (located between Ranson Road, Smith Lake <br /> <br />Road, and Rivermont Heights), Council formally authorized the exercising of <br /> <br />the purchase option immediately in order to make use of the property this <br /> <br />summer for limited recreational usage, with payment for the property scheduled <br /> <br />in three equal and annual installments (with interest beginning from date of <br /> <br />first payment), with first payment scheduled (in December, 1968) near expiration <br /> <br />of purchase option. <br /> <br />After receiving and tentatively accepting the following report of the Planning <br /> <br /> <br />Commission relating to the proposed rezoning of portions of Ellsworth Street, <br /> <br />between East Church Street and Brown Street, Council called for a duly-advertised <br /> <br />public hearing to be conducted by Council at its regular meeting to be held <br />July 23, 1968: <br />
