<br />:;(}.~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 28, 1968 <br /> <br />Following this public hearing, the Commission voted to <br />recommend to Council that this petition be allowed and <br />that the property fronting Starling Avenue, and a lot lying <br />immediately to the rear and adjacent to property fronting <br />Cleveland Avenue known as "15 Cleveland Avenue" be rezoned <br />fr'om its present R-6 Residential to a P-2 Professional zone. <br /> <br />The Commission respectfully submits the above recommendation <br />for Council's further consideration. <br /> <br />After receiving from City Manager Noland comparative data involving present <br /> <br />and proposed rates for local telephone service, the proposed rates being <br /> <br />subject to decision and ruling of the State Corporation Commission, Council <br /> <br />appointed a special committee--composed of ~rr. William F. Stone, member of <br /> <br />the Virginia Senate, and Mr. Thomas B. Noland, City Manager--to Ilstay <br /> <br />abreastll of proceedings before the Commission (initiated by Lee Telephone <br /> <br />Company) for the purpose of keeping the Council and local citizens informed <br /> <br />and, also, for the purpose of making recommendations to the Council as to <br /> <br />whether (in the committee's judgment) the Council should officially (or <br /> <br />otherwise) file an expression with the Commission in this proceeding. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and ~~animously carried, Council authorized the <br /> <br />conveying to Frith Construction Company interests a four-acre tract in the <br /> <br />City's Industrial Park for the sum of $8,000.00 ($2,000.00 per acre), which <br /> <br />tract--because of terrain--can best be developed by the Frith interests <br /> <br />as owner of adjoining properties and their developing thereof. <br /> <br />After reviewing the following bids received for construction and/or <br /> <br />replacement of sewer lines, as hereinafter identified, Council accepted <br /> <br />the lowest bid, viz., that of Bryant's Plumbing & Heating, and awarded <br /> <br />contract to said firm: <br />
