'i ..) <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 14, 1968 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, said Planning Commission has recommended the granting of said <br />petition and, furthermore, said Board of Viewers has reported in <br />writing its findings, viz., that no inconvenience will result from <br />the discontinuance of this street; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, said Martinsville City Council has conducted a duly-advertised <br />pu.blic hearing on this proposal, at which hearing no one registered <br />any objection to same; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this fourteenth day of May, 1968, that <br />it doth accept the recommendation of the Planning Commission and the <br />findings of the Board of Viewers, with regard to the requested closing <br />and vacating of that street identified as "National Highway", and <br />doth hereby order the discontinuance and abandonment of said National <br />Highway, with the understanding that a strip of land--being seven and <br />one-half (7t) feet in depth--parallel to the south side of that portion <br />of East ~in Street on which petitioner(s) property fronts, will be <br />deeded to the City of Martinsville for sidewalk purposes, with sidewalk <br />along thereby to be constructed by the City. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that a copy of this ordinance shall forthwith <br />be filed with the Clerk of the Corporation Court of the City of <br />Mftrtinsville, Virginia, as directive that his records be marked <br />accordingly. <br /> <br />Council was informed that the City's $3,900,000 General Improvement Bonds will <br /> <br />be offered for sale in the office of the State Treasurer, Richmond, Virginia, <br /> <br />May 23, 1968, at 11:00 A.M. (E.D.T.), at which time Council will convene in <br /> <br />~lrtinsville (in its Council Chamber) and, through telephone communication <br /> <br />with the City's. consultant at the bid opening, will act upon the bids received. <br /> <br />Meanwhile, City Manager Noland presented a summary of his recommended 1968-69 <br /> <br />City Budget, balanced contingent upon new and/or increased tax income to be <br /> <br />designated by Councilor upon adjustments by Council of recommended requests, <br /> <br />or a combination of both, in the amount of approximately $29,000.00. Council <br /> <br />then reviewed statements of the effect upon City revenue, which statements <br /> <br />were prepared in accordance with Council's recent request, reflecting <br /> <br />adjustments in tax rates governing business and professional licenses, real <br /> <br />estate, and utilities.
