Council deferred consideration <br /> <br />of this matter, pending development and presentation by Mr. Gray of additional <br /> <br />information for Council's consideration. <br /> <br />COUllCil was informed that salarc and expense requests of local constitutional <br /> <br />officers beginning July 1, 1968, must be filed with the State Compensation <br /> <br />Board on April 2, 1968. Council agreed to consider these requests at a <br /> <br />special meeting for this purpose, before the due date. <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved a proposed revision of the City's group insurance <br /> <br />program for its employees, in accordance with recent proposal of the City's <br /> <br />carrier, Connecticut General Life Insurance Company, Hartford, Connecticut. <br /> <br />Through Mrs, J. Charles Jones, the heirs of the late Dr. C. T. Womack requested <br /> <br />the rezoning to IIP_2 ProfessionaP of the Womack property located at 18 Starling <br /> <br />Avenue, consisting of lots Nos. 15 and 21 as shown on the City's tax maps. <br /> <br />Council referred this petition to the Planning Commission for its consideration <br /> <br />and recommendation. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland informed Council that Mr. Robert P. Mason, Supervisor of <br /> <br />Jails for the Virginia Department of Welfare & Institutions, has advised the <br /> <br />City that a 1968 amendment to the Virginia Code (i.e., Section 53-133.1) will <br /> <br />permit the Commonwealth to participate in the cost of new jail construction, up <br /> <br />to $25,OJO.00, the assumption being that the State of Virginia will contribute <br /> <br />such an amount toward the cost already incurred by the City of Martinsville in <br /> <br />constructing its new jail facility. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />.) <br />-~i~~~~;~c'l:;; of Council <br /> <br />'-'--- <br />
