Council, <br /> <br />thereupon, unanimously agreed to assume fifty per cent of the survey <br /> <br />cost, not to exceed $825.00. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland, as Chairman of the Special Tax Study Committee, <br /> <br />presented the Committee's interim report of findings in conjunction with <br /> <br />the Committee's tax consultant, Dr. George Jennings, of Richmond, Virginia. <br /> <br />l'1r. Noland advised the Council that, after further study by the Committee, <br /> <br />specific recommendations--regarding the City's tax structure, with suggested <br /> <br />revisions thereto--will soon be forthcoming. <br /> <br />Mr. C. P. Lamm, Division Manager of Lee Telephone Company, filed with Council <br /> <br />(as required in such cases) notice of application being filed by Lee Telephone <br /> <br />Company with the State Corporation Commission for an adjustment in local (and <br /> <br />area) telephone rates, on which the State Corporation will conduct a public <br /> <br />hearing on May 16, 1968, in Richmond, Virginia. Mr. Lamm cited the costs <br /> <br />being incurred by his firm in installing new and additional equipment to <br /> <br />serve increasing demands upon the system as well as plans to eliminate toll <br /> <br />service charges between Martinsville and Henry County exchanges. Mr. Lamm <br /> <br />further reported that the adjustments being sought, if granted, would be <br /> <br />the first changes in the company's tariffs since 1953. Generally, it was <br />
