<br />27 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MA:l.CH 12. 1968 <br /> <br />Dr. Mathes also presented the 1967 Annual Report of the Health Department, <br /> <br />after which Mr. Richard S. Mansfield, Sanitarian, reported on local environmental <br /> <br />health conditions, including rodent control activities and the need for a "minimum <br /> <br />housing" ordinance. In connection with the latter phase, Council directed City <br /> <br />Manager Noland to schedule a joint meeting of the Council and the Health Department <br /> <br />to consider this matter. <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission--for its consideration and <br /> <br /> <br />recommendation--a petition filed by the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company for <br /> <br /> <br />a "special-use" permit to conduct its forthcoming 1968 Annual Bazaar during the <br /> <br /> <br />period June 24th through June 29th, at Brown Street Field. <br /> <br />With appreciation of the valuable contribution to the City's fire prevention and <br /> <br />fire protection program rendered by the Volunteer Fire Company since its becoming <br /> <br />chartered in 1949, Council acknowledged receipt of the Company's annual report, <br /> <br />being for 1967. <br /> <br />Council referred to the Planning Commission--for its consideration and <br /> <br />recommendation--a petition filed by representatives and/or officials of the <br /> <br />First Methodist Church, Lee Telephone Company, and Globman Realty Corporation, <br /> <br />requesting the closing and vacating of the street known as "National Highway", <br /> <br />which extends eastward from East Main Street to Lester Street, near East Church <br /> <br />Street, these organizations being the sole abutting property owners along <br /> <br />this street. <br /> <br />Mr. Wilbert Evans, of 1419 S. Askin Street, appeared before Council and appealed <br /> <br />for assistance of the City in removing snow from that portion of South Askin <br />
