(l:j <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 23, 1968 <br /> <br />"..,_. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland presented a draft of a bill--prepared by Senator William <br /> <br />F. Stone for consideration by the 1968 Virginia General Assembly and identified <br /> <br />as SB #60--which, if enacted, would amend the City Charter to the extent of <br /> <br />granting City Council the permissive power to establish a IIParking Authorityll <br /> <br />in accordance with Council's action thereon during its January 9th meeting. <br /> <br />After some discussion, followed by comments and inquiries from several citizens <br /> <br />present, Council asked that copies of the proposed bill be made available to <br /> <br />.- <br /> <br />members of Council for study in order that a decision thereon might be made <br /> <br />on or before Council's forthcoming February 13th meeting. <br /> <br />After receiving a report of the Recreation Department, identified as IIcovering <br /> <br />the year 1967-6811 and describing the various programs sponsored and/or conducted <br /> <br />by the Recreation Department, Council commended the Director, Mr. Herbert O. Hughes, <br /> <br />for the fine work being done by the department. Council also discussed '.vi th <br /> <br />Mr. Hughes the need for additional physical facilities, particulaly the need and <br /> <br />availability of land sites that might be developed as recreational areas, indicating <br /> <br />that a surr@ary report on such need and availability would be helpful to Council <br /> <br />for future planning. <br /> <br />",..-. <br /> <br />After some discussion, Council unanimously accepted the proposal of Yarger & <br /> <br />Associates (of Falls Church, Virginia) to prepare a IIJob Classification & Pay <br /> <br />Scale Planll for the City and its employees for the sum (fee) of $3,000.00. <br /> <br />After receiving a status report on the new water storage tank being <br /> <br />constructed off New York Avenue for the City by Dorcon, Inc., Council was <br /> <br />adjourned. <br /> <br />......... <br />',J~~... ,~ <br />W.
