I <br />" 1 (\ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 26, 1967 <br /> <br />In connection with the proposed closing of that portion of Salem Street <br /> <br />which was replaced by a new entrance to Memorial Boulevard from Manilla <br /> <br />Street, the Planning COmnlission presented the following report which <br /> <br />Council unanimously accepted, subject to action on the findings of a <br /> <br />Board of Viewers authorized to be appointed by Mayor Renick: <br /> <br />The Planning Commission, at its regular meeting on December 21, <br />gave consideration to the matter of the proposed closing of a <br />portion of Salem Street between Manilla Street and Memorial <br />Boulevard. <br /> <br />Following due consideration of this matter, the Commission <br />voted unanimously to recommend to Council that this portion <br />of Salem street be closed and abandoned with the City retaining <br />an easement for an existing sewer main through the porperty. <br />It is also recomnlended that this right-of-way be quit-claimed <br />to the two property owners (one on either side) involved using <br />a straight line between Manilla Street and Memorial Boulevard <br />to divide the right-of-way in such manner that each owner <br />might receive an equal share of the right-of-way of this <br />portion of Salem Street. <br /> <br />The Planning Commission respectfully submits the above <br />recomnlendations for Council's further consideration. <br /> <br />Ater receiving the following estimate from City Manager Noland as to <br /> <br />the cost of the new Municipal Building (City Hall) now under construction, <br /> <br />and after discussing procedures followed in the invitation for bids for new <br /> <br />furniture for the building as well as the bids received, Council awarded <br /> <br />contracts to Martinsville Office Supply, Inc., for said furniture: <br /> <br />KNOWN AMOUNTS <br />Base Contract, <br />Jail Annex <br />Full Basement <br /> <br />Main Building <br /> <br />$896,243 <br />153,257 <br /> <br />(Excavation, concrete, <br />steel) <br />Plus-Basement Change Orders <br />Change Orders - Miscellaneous <br />AY'chitect's Fees <br />Land Purchase (rear of Fire Department) <br />>~ Corporation Court Millwork <br />" Municipal Court Millwork <br />0< Council Chamber Millwork <br />,< Storm Sewer <br />" Drive-up Window <br />" Vault Doors <br />" Counters and Special Shelving <br />(Treasurer, Clerk of Court & Finance <br />" Seating (Courtrooms & Council Chamber) <br /> <br />$80,000 <br />18,358 <br /> <br />98,358 <br />10,251 <br />52,800 <br />9,135 <br />1 6 , 890 <br />9,378 <br />2,200 <br />9,459 <br />5,050 <br />3,540 <br />2'1 , 564 <br /> <br />Dept. ) <br /> <br />5,955 <br /> <br />$1,294,080 <br /> <br />" Work awarded on competitive bids. <br />
