The deed stipulated--as agreed to by Council--the

sum of $14,000.00 for this tract.

With reference to City Manager Noland's memorandum dated October 2nd concerning

the proposed purchase of a "vacumn leaf-loader" machine, Council authorized the

purchase of such equipment and unanimously appropriated the sum of $3,500.00

from the proceeds from the sale of land (Le., from the $14,000.00 hereinabove

cited) for the purchase of this equipment, to be used in the manner recommended

by City ME.nager Noland and Public Works Director George W. Brown.

Upon recommendation of Public Works Director Brown, Council authorized the

extending of curb-and-gutter (on a shared-cost basis) for a distance of 584

feet along the south side of Corn Tassel Trail (1100 block) from a point on
said side previously authorized.

",-

-

Dr. C. J. Mathes, Director of the Martinsville-Henry County Health Department,

presented a refund of $1,194.62 from the Commonwealth of Virginia, representing

un-used funds appropriated by the City to the Health Department budget for the

year 1966-67. Dr. Mathes also reviewed certain activities of his department,

and, furthermore, inquired of Council as to its interest in an area feasibility

study towards establishing a "mosquito control district"; whereupon, Council

expressed favor toward such a study and offered the City's cooperation thereto.

Council was adjourned.

Clerk of Council
