<br />U2 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 11, 1967 <br /> <br />In connection with consideration having been given to the widening of Church <br /> <br />Street (on the south side) between Bridge and Moss Streets, and having been <br /> <br />advised by the General Services Administration (of the United States <br /> <br />Government) of its requirement that--among other things--Council's interest <br /> <br />in this matter and the City's availability of funds be formally indicated in <br /> <br />order for the General Services Administration to consider conveying of <br /> <br />right-of-way required by the City at its main Post Office site at Church and <br /> <br />Bridge Streets, Council adopted the following resolution in compliance therewith: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville desires to widen that section of <br />Church Street between Moss and Bridge Streets; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in order to authorize said project, for which funds are <br />available, it will be necessary for the City of Martinsville to <br />possess approximately seven feet of additional right-of-way along <br />a portion of the south side of said section of Church Street, which <br />portion includes the site and property of the United States Post <br />Office for Martinsville; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this eleventh day of July, 1967, that <br />the General Services Administration of the United States Government <br />be--and is hereby--apprised of the intention and desire of the City <br />of Martinsville to widen the aforesaid block of Church Street; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by said Council that the said General <br />Services Administration be--and is hereby--requested to convey to <br />the City of Martinsville approximately seven feet of right-of-way <br />along its Martinsville Post Office site parallel to the south side <br />of Church Street, west of the intersection of Church and Bridge <br />Streets, and more specifically set forth in supporting documents to <br />be filed pursuant to the General Services Administration's outling <br />dated June 16, 1967, addressed to Mr. George W. Brown, Director of <br />Public Works for the City of Martinsville. <br /> <br />Noting the comparison of true real estate tax rates among the Virginia cities <br /> <br />and counties for the tax year 1966, as recently published by the Virginia <br /> <br />Municipal Review, City Manager Noland presented a comparison of such rates, <br /> <br />along with other taxes imposed, of Martinsville with four other Virginia <br />
