<br />If <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 27. 1967 <br /> <br />5. The United States of America, the State of Virginia, and the political <br />sub-divisions, boards, commissions, and authorities thereof are hereby <br />exempted from the payment of the tax imposed and levied by this <br />ordinance with respect to the purchase of utility service used by such <br />gove~nmental agencies. <br /> <br />6. Any purchaser failing, refusing, or neglecting to pay the tax hereby <br />imposed or levied shall, upon conviction, be subject to a fine of not <br />more than ten ($10.00) dollars; and each failure, refusal, neglect or <br />violation and each day's continuance thereof shall constitute a <br />separate offense. In addition to the fine and penalties hereby imposed, <br />the Manager and/or person in charge of the utility billing of said <br />seller may, upon the failure of any purchaser to pay the tax hereby <br />levied or imposed, discontinue utility service to such purchaser. <br /> <br />7. The tax levied or imposed llilder this ordinance with respect to the <br />purchase of utility service from seller shall be applicable to charges <br />first appearing on bills rendered by seller to purchaser on the first <br />day of JUly, 1967, and thereafter. <br /> <br />8. That individual designated by the COllilcil of the City of Martinsville to <br />collect for utility services is hereby charged with the power and the <br />duty of collecting the taxes levied and imposed herellilder and shall <br />cause the same to be paid into the General Treasury of the City of <br />Martinsville. <br /> <br />9. This ordinance repeals, cancels, replaces and supersedes an ordinance of <br />similar title adopted February 23, 1965, and any amendments thereto. <br /> <br />Resuming its June 13th discussion of the merits of decals vs. metal license tags <br /> <br />for local motor vehicle license taxation, Council decided to continue for 1968 the <br /> <br />using of metal license tags but with the understanding that such tags will be <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />redesigned, for smaller size in one dimension, to be better adaptable to mounting. <br /> <br />Under date of June 23, 1967, the Planning Commission submitted its following report <br /> <br />and recommendation regarding proposed revisions of the City's Subdivision Ordinance, <br /> <br />as contemplated in the City's 1967-68 Budget: <br /> <br />Your Planning Commission gave consideration, at its regular meeting on <br />June 15 and again at a special meeting on June 22, to Council's reference <br />of the matter with regard to amending the City's Subdivision Ordinance <br />in such m~nner as to place the responsibility for the construction of sewer <br />lines and plant-mix paving in new subdivisions on the developer. <br />
