<br />16~ <br /> <br />MAY 23, 1967 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />On behalf of Sale Knitting Company, Inc., petitioner, Mr. M. Harrison Joyce, <br /> <br />Attorney at Law, appeared before Council and requested the closing and <br /> <br /> <br />vacating of a portion of Roy Street, of which the petitioner is the abutting <br /> <br /> <br />property owner. Pursuant to applicable statutes and under authority granted <br /> <br /> <br />by Council, Mayor Renick appointed Messrs. O. B. Hensley (Chairman), John W. <br /> <br /> <br />Yeaman, and J. E. Zentmeyer as a Board of Viewers to perform the duties set forth <br /> <br /> <br />in said statutes. <br /> <br />Upon recoD~endation of the Planning Commission, Council unanimously denied <br /> <br />the recently-filed request of Mr. Stafford G. Whittle, III, that property at <br />604 starling Avenue be rezoned lIC-3 Commercialll. <br /> <br />Also, upon recommendation of the Planning Commission, COllilcil unanimously <br /> <br /> <br />denied the recently-filed request of Lester Lumber Company that property at <br /> <br />or near the intersection of Fairy Street and East Church Street be rezoned <br /> <br />"C-3 Commercial1l. <br /> <br />In order that the City School Board might comply with requirements of land <br /> <br />ownership for its proposed new Shop Building for the Albert Harris High <br /> <br />School and for a portion of existing facilities nearby, COllilcil authorized <br /> <br />the deeding to the School Board of City-owned land therefor, being in the <br />Smith Road-Swanson Street area. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and llilanimously carried, COllilcil authorized the <br /> <br />executing of a contract with Dr. John W. Clark and his wife (Sallie M. Clark) <br /> <br /> <br />by which the City will purchase from Dr. & Mrs. Clark a tract of land on the <br /> <br />east side of South Moss Street, to the rear and south of the City's new <br /> <br />Central Fire Station, for the sum of $9,135.00, with $135.00 being paid at <br />
