TUESDAY

MARCH 28, 1967

Council also discussed proposed improvements to Brookdale Road and Spruce

Street Exte~ded (the Old Danville Road) and was informed that present

plans dictate the reconstruction of that section between East Church

Street (Route 58) and Fisher Street as the initial or first phase of this

reconstruction project, pending appropriation of supplemental funds therefor

in the forthcoming 1967-68 budget.

Mayor Renick informed Council that--contrary to opinion--the Appalachian

Power Company has an auxiliary or second point of delivery of electric

energy to the City's Electric Utility System, although this auxiliary point

is insufficient to meet peak loads or demands. Mayor Renick reported

further that Appalachian Power Company will increase the size of this

second delivery system to carry peak loads so that, if interruption occurs

on one line, energy can be transmitted on the other line.

City Manager Noland reported that fifty per cent of the cost of seven new

busses--purchased under the Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964 and recently

leased to City Transit Company by agreement--has been received from the

Federal Government (or one-half of $105,169.89, i. e., $52,584.94).

Council was adjourned.

.....
)
W.
