1

TUESDAY

OCTOBER 25. 1966

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, October 25,

1966, beginning at 7:30 P.M., in the Council Chamber, City Hall, all members

being present, viz., Mayor Fred T. Renick, M.D.; Vice-Mayor E. E. Stone; Harry L.

Boaz; W. Donald Hartford; and Francis T. West.

After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular

meeting held October 11, 1966.

Under date of October 24, 1966, the Martinsville Planning Commission reported

that--follo'wing a public hearing--it recommends that Council grant the request

filed with Council on September 27, 1966, by Mrs. Evelyn H. Stone, Trustee,
which request (in summary) was as follows:

(1) that property owned by petitioner and located east of Memorial

Boulevard South, between a tier of lots fronting the south side of

Rivermont Heights and a tier of lots fronting the north side of

Overton Street, be rezoned from "R-6 Residential" to "C-3 Commercial";

and
(2) that present enumerated uses in the City's "C-3 Commercial District"

zoning regulations be amended so as to include "golf driving range"

for public recreation.

The Commission further reported its awareness of the possibility of a problem

arising with regard to the lighting of the proposed golf driving range but

expressed the opinion that such problem, if any, can be satisfactorily handled

under existing ordinances. In tentative acceptance of the Commissionls

recommendation, Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing on this

matter to be conducted at Council's forthcoming November 22nd meeting.
